George Harrison - All Things Must Pass

George "got it" years ago when talking about love and it being all you need. This album is pure and I love it. This particular set was released in 2001, 30 years after it's original release. Phil Spector's "wall of sound" brings it all out front and center and Ringo, Phil Collins, Billy Preston were guest artists. WOW!!

So many great lyrics, so many great tunes. I lit my incense and rocked on tonight.

You had it right then George, I'll do my best to keep sreading the word..love is all we need...we miss you!

Great choice. I LOVE George Harrison's music.

Oh me too Puerileuwaite!! This album brings back many fond memories..of course I was a mere child in 1971..but I was cool even then!

another pretty nice choice. did you become attached to this (or any other specific work at the time of its release or in later explorations? do you (or sis you)own any LP's? what was your favorite album when you left high school?

E R welcome back!. I owned ton's of albums(In crates of course), I left my entire collection back in NJ when I moved to FL. I don't know why I didn't keep them but at the time I figured I would never own a phonograph again..which probably is true. I've done my best over the years to replace those old vinyls with CD's. I never owned ALL THINGS MUST PASS on vinyl, but I borrowed it many times from friends who had it, thus I am very familiar with the work. This new release has some added tracks that Mr Harrison himself added in 2001. It's wonderful.

Ok when I was graduated from HS in 1976, YES 30 years ago, my #1 album was Frampton Comes Alive. Still up there in my top fav list. I was also a big WINGS fan...yeah I know commerical stuff, but what the heck I was 17! I wasn't however into DISCO..I actually like it more today then then, I was a rock chick, NOT a disco chick.

My first ever store bought album was Paul McCartney's RAM. I bought it with my savings from babysiting..how very typical eh? I must have listened to it 1000 times!

OK enough about me..I'll throw the questions back to you now..I await your reply.

Wow Leelee, I was a Wings nut (would that make me a "wingnut"?), and LOVE the Ram album (even though technically Ram was pre-Wings).

leelee said...

Ram was mos def pre-wings, but I stayed a fan throughout the 70's..I even liked Linda..

It seems we have much in common P.

:-)

PS: Have you listened to Miles' Kind Of Blue yet??

You know, I actually started to on my long Monday morning drive.

(I was the nerd driving with the laptop on his lap, streaming iTunes from it instead of my iPod, which is still linked to my comatose Powerbook ... I could go on, but it would only get nerdier ...)

And it was very good, and very soothing; too soothing. I was three songs in when I had to opt for jumpier music. But I DO like it, and can envision drinking a glass or two of fine whiskey with the lights low to it.

OK, when I graduated, I was entering an Allman Brothers phase, a record called "Brothers & Sisters" was selling at the time, but I really liked "Eat a Peach". I was also big on Bruce Springsteen, (you may remember him from the 'hood), "Born to Run" was either just out or on its way and he was about to be knighted as the future of Rock n' Roll. I listened to a lot of Santana, Doors, Lou Reed and dabbled with the Who. Anything else?

PW...I agree, it's not "driving to work on a monday morning" kind of record..but yes, good nonetheless. Remember my film noir scene? I suppose you could sub whiskey for the coffee..it works!

Ok ER, I guess then if my math is correct, you graduated HS in 73, same year as my brother. did you wear your hair long??...Good choices of music by the way..definitely cool..love the Allman Bros. I saw them at the Capital Theater in Passic, NJ.in about 79...

I actually saw Bruce for the first time in Dec 1975 at a little NJ college called Seton Hall...I sat in the 3rd row...I fell in love with him that night..and have been a fan ever since! Thanks for sharing!

Long hair? Long was (and is) in the eyes of the beholder, (no pun there). Mine was shorter than most, but over my ears and just about neck length. So there.

Listening to the Traveling Wilburys right now...

I think The Travelling Wilbury's are the ultimate supergroup!

Okay, Leelee. I just looked up the song list. The standout song on this album for me is "What Is Life".

There are certain songs that instantly take me back to favorite summers (1971 in particular) growing up in Chicago.
Green grass (Yes, grass that you walk on! My party hardy years came later.) and pretty girls I had crushes on. In fact, "What Is Life" reminds me of one girl in particular, frozen in time. "Uncle Albert" by Paul, and Badfinger's songs have a similar effect.

"My Sweet Lord" is a beautiful song. Also one of my favorites of his. And of course I'm sure you know that he was successfully sued for copyright infringement for this one. The judge ruled that it was too similar to "He's So Fine" by The Chiffons.

What is life is a great song. Isn't it funny how you can go right back to a time when you hear something..

Sing with me Peurileuwaite, I like Badfinger too:

No matter what you are
I will always be with you
Doesn't matter what you do girl, oh girl with you
No matter what you do
I will always be around
Won't you tell me what you found girl, oh girl won't you
Knock down the old brick wall, and be a part of it all
Nothing to say, nothing to see, nothing to do
If you would give me all, as I would give it to you
Nothing would be, nothing would be, nothing would be
No matter where you go
There will always be a place
Can't you see in my face girl, oh girl don't you
Knock down the old brick wall, and be a part of it all
Nothing to say, nothing to see, nothing to do
If you would give me all, as I would give it to you
Nothing would be, nothing would be, nothing would be
No matter what you are
I will always be with you
Doesn't matter what you do girl, oh girl want you
Oh girl, you girl, want you
Oh girl, you girl, want you

Paul MacCartney wrote that song for them, as I recall.

But I have two that I love even more. "Baby Blue", which I want to learn on guitar (it's relatively simple, I just need to find the time), and "Without You".

Harry Nilsson did the more famous cover of "Without You", but I really dig the Badfinger original. You dig?

MacCartney?

McCartney? As I said..my first ever purchased ALBUM was RAM. Absolutely love early McCartney.

All those badfinger songs are great. I was in Junior high, I think I had all the singles!
