Well after the comments here by Eccentric Recluse, I was reminded of a Dead concert that I attended Septemeber 03, 1977. I actually googled it and found some cool photos of that experience. I also found a review and by golly, I'd swear the author was sitting on the blanket next to mine, his experience and mine were identical..I absolutely couldn't tell the story as well as he did. It was a great concert...absolutely!I guess I'm back in the 70's again..

I have to admit that I was never a "Dead Head". Back then I was more of a traditional classic rocker. Around that time and well past it, I was heavily into the Rolling Stones (LOVE the Stones).
But I do like the Grateful Dead, and given the chance I might've been trippin' (don't ask, don't tell, eh?) right alongside you at that concert.
Certain songs of theirs I like, others I can live without.
Well I became heavily influenced when I moved out with a GF to share an apartment with 2 guy friends one of which was a major major deadhead. It was un..hell I was 18-19. I'm glad I had the experience. and thankfully am none the worse for wear..I hope anyway.
LOVE THE STONES..my new fav stones song is Monkey man.
OMG, Leelee, "Monkey Man" is in my top three. I shit you not. This is spooky.
"Rocks Off" is usually my number 1.
"Can't You Hear Me Knocking" is number 2.

OK, I feel like I have to weigh in here. This album seemed to work much more than the two albums that followed it, and some of the tunes here have lasted unto this day, performed by Bob Wier and Phil Lesh with their respective bands. If you get a chance, look for the "Terrapin Suite" on a live recording to really hear it come alive.
Monkey Man is a good one, tho I like Gimme Shelter best from that recording.
Listening now, for reasons that even I cannot fathom, to the "West Side Story" soundtrack.
