Bruce Springsteen - Santa Claus Is Coming To Town

Ok, this version is apparently from 1978 at the Capital Theater in Passaic NJ, which was about 10 minutes from my house when I was growing up. (saw a lot of great concerts there in the 70's). It's the closest version I can find, to the actual concert I saw Bruce perform this timeless classic in Decemeber of 1975. Enjoy!!

Todd Rundgren - A Dream Goes On Forever

Heard this on my walk this morning. It had me thinking about how it's ok to hold on to your dreams. I don't think I can ever let mine go.

I don't think I want to.

A million old soldiers will fade away

But a dream goes on forever

Im left standing here, Ive got nothing to say

All is silent within my dream

A thousand true loves will live and die

But a dream lives on forever

The days and the years will go streaking by

But the time has stopped in my dream

We all have our everyday hopes and fears

And youll find no exception in me

But that doesnt get me through a sea of tears

Over lifes biggest tragedy

Youre so long ago and so far away

But my dream lives on forever

I guess I believe that Ill see you one day

For without it there is no dream

Youre so far away and so long ago

But my dream goes on forever

And how much I loved you youll never know

til you join me within my dream

Bill Haley and The Comets - Shake, Rattle and Roll

It's Friday and seems to me, tonight would be a great night for a sock-hop. Now of course we know that I am too young to have actually attended a 1950's sock-hop..but I think it would have been a blast.

Put on your poodle skirt or your madras shirt and have a go at this oldie but goodie!

ELP - Emerson, Lake & Palmer

I got into progressive electronic rock music early in the 70's, I always dug the big sounds that were orchestrated. Headphone music for sure. I'm still a big fan.

I had the wonderful opportunity to see ELP in concert down at Princeton college in like 1979. I went with a really tall, cute guy whose name now escapes me. I remember though, he was an airplane mechanic at Teterborough Airport in NJ and he had a lava lamp in his apartment in Lodi..gee, you would think I'd remember his name....but alas, I don't. Funny how I remember the lava lamp though..lol what can I say??

Friday Sing-a-long - Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody

Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody

Is this the real life-
Is this just fantasy-
Caught in a landslide-
No escape from reality-
Open your eyes
Look up to the skies and see-
Im just a poor boy,i need no sympathy-
Because Im easy come,easy go,
A little high,little low,
Anyway the wind blows, doesnt really matter to me,
To me

Mama,just killed a man,
Put a gun against his head,
Pulled my trigger,now hes dead,
Mama,life had just begun,
But now Ive gone and thrown it all away-
Mama ooo,
Didnt mean to make you cry-
If Im not back again this time tomorrow-
Carry on,carry on,as if nothing really matters-

Too late,my time has come,
Sends shivers down my spine-
Bodys aching all the time,
Goodbye everybody-Ive got to go-
Gotta leave you all behind and face the truth-
Mama ooo- (any way the wind blows)
I dont want to die,
I sometimes wish Id never been born at all-

I see a little silhouetto of a man,
Scaramouche, scaramouche will you do the fandango-
Thunderbolt and lightning-very very frightening me-
Galileo,galileo,
Galileo galileo
Galileo figaro-magnifico-
But Im just a poor boy and nobody loves me-
Hes just a poor boy from a poor family-
Spare him his life from this monstrosity-
Easy come easy go-,will you let me go-
Bismillah! no-,we will not let you go-let him go-
Bismillah! we will not let you go-let him go
Bismillah! we will not let you go-let me go
Will not let you go-let me go
Will not let you go let me go
No,no,no,no,no,no,no-
Mama mia, mama mia, mama mia let me go-
Beelzebub has a devil put aside for me,for me,for me-

So you think you can stone me and spit in my eye-
So you think you can love me and leave me to die-
Oh baby-cant do this to me baby-
Just gotta get out-just gotta get right outta here-

Nothing really matters,
Anyone can see,
Nothing really matters-,nothing really matters to me,

Any way the wind blows....

Bruce Springsteen - Born To Run

I suppose I would have to say that this album was my anthem of sorts. I graduated from High School in Northern New Jersey, waaaaaay back in 1976..and no JL4 it wasn't a one room school house. Friends had this album on vinyl, on cassette and some even had it on 8 track. It was always played at a party and I heard the album in it's entirity every Friday night as I was getting ready to go out.

We searched in vain, the Asbury Park boardwalk on warm balmy summer nights in hopes of a glimpse of Bruce, just strolling down the boards.

We went to the Stone Pony later..hoping for one of his walk in performances...never caught one..

I saw Bruce for the first time in December of 1975 at Seton Hall University in South Orange, NJ. He hadn't made it super big yet..he was right on the verge. We sat in folding chairs in the gym in the 3rd row!!!..when he played his guitar...when he got on his piano...when Clarence Clemons blew that Sax...I thought I had reached nirvana. He even sang "Santa Claus Is Coming To Town" that night...and I found out later that although the Seton Hall show was not where they recorded that song for airplay... it was recorded on that same college tour, that December

I remember what I wore that night (patched jeans and one of those gauze Indian Blouses)..I remember how I had my hair (long parted in the middle with a tiny mini braids on each side pulled back and clipped with a barrette)..long silver earrings and Frye Boots.

I've seen Bruce numerous times since that night, but no stadium performance, no matter how good...even in the Meadowlands or The Garden, can compare to that magical night...In a college gym, watching one of the greatest rockers emerging into Hall Of Fame status.

I am, was and always will be a Jersey Girl...and Bruce will always be my Special Jersey Guy.
Enjoy...Born To Run!!

I thought you might also enjoy this live acoustic version of Thunder Road....excellent!!

Jefferson Starship - Red Octopus

1975.
Some may feel that Jefferson Airplane sold out when they became Jefferson Starship..but I think that occurred when they simply became Starship. I recall this album from the summer between my junior and senior years in high school. Hanging out in Brookdale Park with friends. Cruising through town..laughing like we never laughed before. Good Times, good times.

I love this song..it's special to me.

Yes - The Yes Album

I think 1971 might have been the best year for music..I'm not sure, but so many of my all time favs are from '71. I might have to research that.

Bad Company - Bad Company

We heard the buzz about this band coming out under Led Zeppelin's Swan Song label..so we were intrigued...what could it be like?? They MUST be great if they are on Zeps label.

Summer of '74...the album debuts and to this day remains one of my favorites..I'm sure I wore down the vinyl's grooves, I played it so often.

I still sing along with every tune and air guitar every riff. I'm serious. My daughter (18) just thinks I am weird (but cool). I've been jammin in front of her since she was born.

You wouldn't know it to look at me would you....lol

The Rolling Stones - Sticky Fingers

This record was considered so risque when it hit MY music stores in 1971 that the owner of the store (Gaslight Records) had to keep it behind the counter and partially covered. The working fly was just too much for our suburban town. We bought it anyway...the owner's raised eyebrows not withstanding...although we didn't run right home to show it to Mom and Dad.. and for sure we didn't show them the Andy Warhol inside...

The music though...so great, so early Stones...so..hot n' rockin'

Arlo Guthrie - Alice's Restaurant

When I was a teenager and was an avid listener of WNEW in NY, one of the all time greatest progressive rock stations in the world bar none...I would hear Alice's Restaurant on Thanksgiving morning at 11:00 am.. It was a tradition and I guess it is now played on rock stations nationwide as well on Thanksgiving. In any case...tonight's Kitchen Concert was this song in it's entirety, all 18 minutes, just enough time to get me through the dinner dishes.

Have a listen: and PEACE!

The Guess Who Greatest Hits - The Guess Who

I've been listening to a lot of pop music from the 60's lately. XM has a terrific station that's been keeping me singing along and smiling.
The Guess Who is one of those bands that I always loved, but never bought a 45 when I was a kid, but they were played so often (WABC IN New York) that of course, I like everyone else knew all the words and there was almost no need to buy the record.
This is a good compilation of their hits. Check out some of these samples..then download them into your MP3 player, I guarantee you'll sing along and remember where/who you were when these came out...
